Peaceful protest of female human rights activists from “Femina Virtute” movement — Sholpan Dzhanzakova and Ulbolsyn Turdiyeva.

WE ARE PEACEFUL PEOPLE

Peaceful protest of female human rights activists from “Femina Virtute” movement — Sholpan Dzhanzakova and Ulbolsyn Turdiyeva.

Their demands:

we are against selling and renting out/lending our lands to foreigners;
we are against price rises;
we demand freedom for the political prisoners and to stop politically motivated persecution.

“We want Kazakhstan to develop in all sectors, so that our economy achieves its highest potential,”said Sholpan Dzhanzakova, making her fair point.

Officials from the local authority office (akimat) and prosecution office demanded them to cease their peaceful protest, saying that it was “unlawful”. In fact, they submitted notification about their peaceful protest to be held on 20 April 2021. Tokayev constantly talks about those “notifications”.

On 8 April 2021, akimat (local executive authority) of Aktau city unlawfully rejected their request to hold a peaceful protest, referring to the “quarantine measures”. Is it the example of Tokayev’s “listening state”? Or is it only Zhanbolat Mamai who is allowed to hold his “unauthorized” protests as he always gets approval to hold these protests during quarantine and beyond?

Update: Police officers have arbitrarily detained Ulbolsyn Turdiyeva and Sholpan Dzhanzakova and brought them to the police station. They were kept at the police station for 3 hours. Unknown police officer of the Mangystau Police Department was asking them what they needed in order to stop their human rights activity and peaceful civil activism. Having received a dissatisfying answer, the policeman started threatening them that criminal cases would be initiated against them.
